There are different types of backpack inserts available in the market that present various levels of ballistic protection. GORUCK, maker of the best and toughest rucking gear, partnered with DFNDR Armor, designer of lighter weight and more impact resistant armor to come up with the lightest yet the best armor rucksack insert.

DFNDR Armor Rucksack Insert – Overview
In partnership with DFNDR Armor®, GORUCK offers you a Handgun Rated Level IIIA Armor insert that fits flawlessly into your 21L or 26L GR1 laptop compartment. This insert is the lightest areal density armor that DFNDR produces, weighing approximately 1LB. The two sizes are developed to deliver the highest scope of coverage within your ruck.
All threats identified are tested at muzzle velocity and are documented in the “threat profile” table under Specs + Materials, which depicts the rated ammunition this armor system will vanquish. The DFNDR Armor® Level IIIA system is independently tested to the NIJ 0101.04 protocol and NIJ 0101.08 protocol for the thin profile option at NIJ Certified Ballistic Labs. The DFNDR Armor Rucksack Insert has a slim profile and is TSA Approved for traveling.
The 21L GR1 size will fit in 26L GR2, and the 26L GR1 size will also fit in the 34L GR2. The DFNDR Armor® Level IIIA system is arranged with the highest grade of ballistic materials – an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fiber wrapped with a resin matrix to create a rigid stand-alone armor system and furnished with Spall-Tek to lessen deflection of projectile fragments further.
